Frank Briscoe

Frank Briscoe is originally from Bay Shore, New York and has been playing trumpet since elementary school. Frank enjoyed playing trumpet throughout his school days and was featured soloist in his school ensambles while attending high school in Hauppauge, New York.

In 1986, Frank moved to Orlando, FL. Frank received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Central Florida where he fell in love with jazz while performing in the Big Band and Jazz Combo. Frank also enjoyed the opportunities to work and perform at Walt Disney World as well as in R&B, jazz and funk bands throughout Orlando.

In 1992, Frank moved to Boston to earn his Master’s in Jazz Studies from New England Conservatory, where he studied with John McNeil, George Garzone, Cecil McBee and others. After graduating from NEC, Frank performed with his own jazz band and with numerous other groups in clubs and venues throughout the greater Boston area.

In 1997 Frank began his 20-year career as a trumpeter in the United States Army. He was stationed twice at Ft. McPherson, first moving to Atlanta in 1999. He met his wife, Melissa Fontaine in 2000, and they got married in 2002. In 2003 Frank and Melissa moved to Heidelberg, Germany. While Frank was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, he played in ceremonies commemorating the 60 th anniversary of the end of World War II. Frank was a featured soloist at a performance in the Kremlin for the anniversary of VE Day in Moscow (the first time a US military band performed in the Kremlin!). Frank was also stationed in Seoul, Korea as well as Ft. Benning in Columbus, GA and Ft. Lewis in Tacoma, WA. While serving on active duty, Frank performed in military and civilian Jazz and Popular music groups throughout the United States and Europe, the South Korean peninsula and the Demilitarized Zone, and at the US Embassy in Paris and Morocco. Also while on active duty, Frank performed in the Montreux Jazz Fest, Umbria (Italy) Jazz Festival, Atlanta Jazz Fest and Savannah Jazz Fest.

His extensive career has seen him performing with notables such as J.J. Johnson, Clark Terry, Louie Bellson, Sam Rivers, Bobby Shew, Canadian saxophonist Shirantha Beddage, Iranian percussionist Shooresh Fezoni, Korean pianist Shin-Kwan Woong who was one of the first to bring Jazz to the Korean peninsula, and Korean drummer Chiwoo Choi who Frank performed with in clubs throughout the city of Seoul.

Since his retirement from the Army in Spring of 2018, Frank played regularly at Café 290 and Eclipse de Luna and has been performing with numerous groups throughout the metro Atlanta area and North Georgia. Frank Frank lives with his wife Melissa Fontaine and their sweet beagle Sadie in Northwest Atlanta.
